Thoughts on Nikki Haley?

So I'm getting ready to spend a few days on the road, in preparation for a profile on Nikki Haley (the Republican candidate for governor in South Carolina, and the favorite to win).

Sometimes I go into this type of story with a particular angle in mind -- although often the reporting in the field leads me in another direction. This time, though, I'm pretty wide open. So I'd love to hear your thoughts.

What have you read about Haley (or the governor's race) that you'd like to know more about? What would like to know LESS about? And what do you think her candidacy says about politics in general, and South Carolina politics in particular?

Let me know what you think. And if you're interested in seeing Haley for yourself, she'll be at a rally in Rock Hill on Friday.

Is it this nasty because she's a minority, or because she's a woman, or both? I'm sick and tired of the "who slept with whom" and the "she paid this or that late." I DON'T CARE WHO SHE SLEPT WITH OR WHETHER OR NOT SHE PAID TAXES LATE! Those issues don't help me pay the electric bill or the grocery bill. What I want to know is how are they going to improve the education system? How are they going to get people back to work? How are they going to improve the quality of life? I applaud her for ignoring the crap and trying to stick to the issues. I think South Carolina is going to let the other side know that throwing mud instead of talking about the issues that affect my family budget won't work. At this point she's the only one in the race offering up ideas to fix South Carolina.

You know what else wont help you buy groceries, anonymous?

A grocery tax, proposed by Haley.

I'm concerned that Ms Haley appears to be continuing the "old boys club". Her previous job @ Lexington appears to have been created especially for her and her salary far above the avg southeastern avg though she had no experience in the field. Further, isn't it a red flag if the politician is unable to manage their own finances?? Why should I expect her to manage the public's money any differently? She is not qualified for the job!!

I'd like to know what she thinks is so special about her. Always wanted to ask a person running for office that question. Do you have an idea for government that hasn't been heard? Does your cumulative life experience bring a truly unique perspective to the anticipated day to day challenges? The big challenges? Or is this just a good job opportunity? Whats you're largest ambition? Basically, why are you running and not me?

Like I posted on FB yesterday, I am so sick and tired of all of the mudslingling, name calling, back stabbing and bs in general that the Republican party within SC has resulted in amongst it's candidates. I have almost made up my mind to vote a straight Democratic ticket this November.
I would like to know why this particular state's campaign has been so hostile, negative, and all around nasty? Why two separate men crawled out the proverbial woodwork and alleged that they had "inappropriate relationships" with Ms. Haley? Why are there ads discussing her unpaid taxes and other "character flaws" among other things? If her chosen profession is accounting, doesn't she know first hand about unpaid taxes and possible jail time? She has also been accused of getting jobs and kickbacks becuase of connections she has with certain people. I have even heard that she changed her name to make herself even more approachable to voters because they would discriminate against her if she kept her birth name. Does this give you any ideas? I hope so. Oh, and she has even been accused of wanting to increase sales taxes on groceries. I already take care of that one! I shop in North Carolina for my groceries already...

I hear she wants to drug test everyone who receives unemployment benefits. Should we drug test everyone who receives any kind of benefits?

Nikki is a good true conservative with honor and decency in spite of the usual elite arrogant socialist fascist snobbish conceited smug censoring un-American liberal war party attempts to destroy her like they do Palin and others. The good ole boys jabs are typical elitist liberal leftist radical wingnut hogwash.
Conservative women are the new upcoming leaders of America and the 1st world and liberal leftist thugz are scared to death of her and her ilk. Too funny. Deal with it. The T-Party is taking over soon and will crush libscum.

I believe Nikki Haley will get loads of corporate cash for her campaign. These corporations will give this cash with the expectation that Haley, if elected, would support their continued outsourcing of American jobs to India.
