In all the ballyhoo about the 40th anniversary of Woodstock, it's conveniently forgotten that Max Yasgur was a conservative Republican. Max died 4 years later but here's what his son had to say about him:
"In describing my father, I emphasized the word conservative because it had a much different meaning to him than it does to so many people now. To him, being a conservative meant defending the rights of others to be heard even if they expounded ideas with which he did not agree. He believed that if he wanted to be heard he had to be willing to listen. A very rare notion today."
The next time a liberal goes on some incoherent rant about boycotting South Carolina, or engages in juvenile namecalling against those who don't want government-mandated healthcare, remember the conservative Republican who welcomed a half-million hippies onto his farm.
We need real conservatives like that now. I hope he was not the last of that dying breed.
