I'm always looking for strange little moments of beauty and grace in the world, and some days the best place to find them is YouTube.
Here, a musician from Wilmington plays Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" at an assisted-living center while people walk around in the background. Something about this reminds me of a David Lynch movie.
I'm sure a lot of y'all have plumbed the depths of YouTube more than I have. What's the best stuff out there with a Carolinas connection? Send me the links and I'll post one here every so often.

Wow, you're certainly on the cutting edge, espousing the virtues of youtube almost two years after it's inception.
What's your next timely entry gonna be about, the iPod?
You are part of what makes the Charlotte Observer a complete and utter farce.
If the line between bloggers and journalists is becoming blurred, totally clueless boobs like yourself are not doing the legit journalists any favors. Get lost. Seriously.
Trash has taken over Charlotte like the "Boweval worm did cotton" Its time the jail bords start paying the piper; You want to do violent crimes ,well lets see how good you are with a Broom Mr. Criminal. How about a nice roasting North Carolina tan picking up trash all day. Come all you who do crime to Charlotte and "reap the whirlwind". Help us build our outerbelt with the hands of deciet.
How's this for a carolina you tube experience:

you should check out napster...tons of free music!
Yo, Tommy!
How about posting a video of yer enormous and floppy man-boobies on youtube.
That would be so freakin' hot!
Hey Tommy......For me......That was about 2:00 minutes of heaven on a cold and dreary morning. This guy is obviously an accomplished musician with an amazing voice bringing a much needed message. Thanks for sharing!
Those of you who are just ill and nasty people, please keep it to yourself. One thing I hate in this world is with all the crime and ignorance in Charlotte today, people who have to lash out at others just to make your life seem better.
Your mothers should have taught you the old tried and true of "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all." Please shut your mouths and go away!
I must say I was pleasantly surprised by this man's performance. This song has to be one of my alltime favorites. I am especially attached to the Jeff Buckley version; it will send chills down your spine.
If Tommy and the newspaper are so rotten why waste the time and energy to insult them here? Go mumble in the gutter where you belong.
Tommy, thank you for providing yet another bright spot. Bless you.
I love your column and I was touched my this man's generous use of his time....he's talented as well as good hearted. Older folks are often overlooked. Thanks for sharing.
Love the guy in the background that stumbles into the light of the doorway. Waits and eventually makes his way into the room. Classic
