Reading on Sunday

If your Sunday afternoon's free, I'll be doing a reading at the Wine Cellar up in Cornelius. That link goes to a Facebook page, so if you can't see it for some reason, here's some info from the listing:

Date:
Sunday, February 21, 2010
Time:
4:00pm - 6:00pm

Please join editor Ann Wicker and several contributors to Making Notes: Music of the Carolinas for a reading/music event on Sunday, February 21, at The Wine Cellar in Cornelius.

Making Notes, a Novello Festival Press anthology, offers nonfiction essays and stories about music, musicians and events with Carolinas connections. From Dizzy Gillespie to James Taylor and from Loonis McGlohon to the Avett Brothers, many musicians have called one of the two Carolinas “home.” Making Notes also celebrates the stories of how music works in our lives and brings people together – and a wine bar is the perfect place to celebrate those connections.

Joining Wicker for the event are contributors Tommy Tomlinson, Steve Stoeckel, Kevin Winchester, and John Grooms.

Stoeckel is best known as the longtime bass player for The Spongetones, a Charlotte-based rock band that recently toured Japan. He has also been a community columnist for the Charlotte Observer.

Winchester directs the Writing Center at Wingate University. An accomplished singer/songwriter, Kevin has played in bands since he was a teenager. Main Street Rag Press published his first book of short stories, Everybody’s Gotta Eat, last year.

Grooms is the former editor of Creative Loafing, Charlotte’s alternative weekly newspaper, and his first book, a collection of his columns, Deliver Us From Weasels, came out late last year.

The Wine Cellar is located at 19712 One Norman Boulevard, Suite 110, just off Catawba Avenue in Cornelius. Admission is free. Call 704-895-3292 for more info.

I'll be reading my piece on the '70s tune "Chevy Van," accompanied by the great Steve Stoeckel. I've already put it on the blog once, so I won't make you suffer through it again, but if you want a preview, here's a reading of the same piece from StorySlam a few months ago.

I've never been to the Wine Cellar -- I'm more a Beer Cellar, or a Cheap Whiskey Cellar, sort of guy -- so this will be new to me, too. Come check it out.

GW,

Depends. We had 30-40 at Story Slam, but a good bit more than that when we had an event at the Visulite when the book first came out. This time? I have no idea. Can't wait to find out.
